Day 4: The Cotton Club

Here we have another production from good old Uncle Francis, and boy is it a doozy! Again, Cage is shafted on the leading role and deferred to playing Richard Gere’s brother. He is playing yet another gangster, and really giving it his Cagiest best! In typical Uncle Francis fashion, all of hollywood is in this movie: Rumble Fish repeats Diane Lane, Tom Waits, and Larry Fishburne (who is playing basically the exact same bad ass character again), and some news faces like Bob Hoskins, Jennifer Grey (as in “no-one puts baby in the corner” Jennifer Grey), Gregory Hines, and even the old man from Pet Cemetary!

This movie was mostly boring for me, as I am just not a mob movie fan, but Gregory Hines doing his dance thang was spectacular!! He really laid the ole soft shoe on us, and I loved every second of it. Bob Hoskins has literally not changed  since 1984, look:

And Richard Gere has changed a whole lot since 1984:

The best part of The Cotton Club is the musical numbers, in my opinion. Diane Lane even has a little performance herself, dubbed singing of course.

Now for Cage. He had a smaller role, so not too much action, but this time I did manage to get a video of his awesome flip out, and I edited the best parts together for your viewing pleasure:

And lastly, here is a clip that weirded me out/got me super stoked. I give you, the inspiration for the blue opera woman from The Fifth Element:

Tonight I’ll be watching Birdy, which I have never heard of before in my life. Let’s see what Cage has in store!!
