Arsenal was a real Cage gem. Not necessarily a great film, but Cage was Caging real hard. I’ve gotta say, these 2017 era films are getting me stoked, it seems like Cage is really leaning into what he does best with all of his weird ass roles and extreme over acting. But it’s over acting in a way that only Cage can do, and it’s pure genius! So back to Arsenal…
Watching this movie made me think that someone got their hands on a bunch of fake blood and a slow motion camera and they went apeshit with it. There were so many scenes done in extreme slow mo that it just became gratuitous and unnecessary after a while. To prove my point, I went through the film and cut together all of the shitty slow mo shots in one mega cut (note that the shots are in order as they are seen in the film), and this is all you need to see to understand Arsenal:
I loved that Cage was rocking the fake nose and using almost the exact same character voice as he used in Deadfall – which was one of my personal favorites. I’m excited to see what the rest of the 2017 Cage films have to offer!
