Day 37: National Treasure

Considering the fact that I randomly picked a start date to watch all of Cage’s movies in chronological order, it is pretty amazing that National Treasure, a tale of American history meets Da Vinci Code/heist movie, landed on Thanksgiving weekend! Murika, ya’ll!!

This is actually the movie that kicked off the 70 Days of Cage idea, and it also seems to be the audience favorite. Every person I have told about my journey through TWC has seemed to respond with some version of “Hit me up when you’re watching National Treasure! I love that one!” I was hoping to have a big viewing party, but the holiday weekend made that tough. So I enjoyed the shit out of this awesome movie all by myself! Happy Thanksgiving to me! This year I am thankful for Nicolas Fucking Cage!!

This is my personal favorite part of any heist movie: the oh so necessary scene when sidekick thief explains to main thief why stealing this object is absolutely impossible, then there is a series of CG images showing all of the high tech security stuff, then main thief shuts him down with a simple “oh yes we can!”. Classic stuff here!

I also really loved this scene where Cage blows on the map. The look on his face just warms my heart. Another one I could watch over and over and over again. I am going to have to make a compilation video of my favorite clips when this is all over in January. But in the mean time, enjoy!

I have never seen National Treasure: Book of Secrets, and I am so excited for it. I’ll be watching it sometime around December 8th. I’m hoping we can get a viewing party together for that one. Any takers?!

Next up is Lord of War!
