Day 30: The Family Man

WOOOOO HOOOO!! Thirty Days of Cage!!!! I’ve watched a month of Nicolas Cage….. wow.

This was a sharp left turn from the Cage action extravaganza I’ve been on! I was lucky enough to have a friend to watch The Family Man with, because I just don’t think I could have made it through this one on my own. I’m not typically one for chick flicks…. Actually, I am. Fuck it, we all are. We all fucking love chick flicks. Sometimes I watch Bridget Jones Diary and enjoy it, ok? I’m human!!

Anyway, my friend Amanda and her adorable snoring frenchie Derby joined me

for this heart wrenching example of how cruel adult life can really be!! It’s a story of regret, and looking back and saying “what if”.

Here’s the quick and dirty: In college Cage decides to take a 1 year internship in London leaving his girlfriend behind. 13 years later Cage is a rich womanizing NYC financier. Don Cheedle is a gangster angel who transports Cage to what his life would be like if he had not left his girlfriend and instead became….. you guessed it!! A Family Man!!! Get it? Like the title? The Family Man? Genius.

Now even though I do admit to loving chick flicks, I am still kind of a dude chick, so I don’t know how to translate my chick flick feelings very well. Luckily Amanda had me covered in that department, and I had to take note of some of her amazing quotes while we watched, because there is no way I could have come up with things like:

“The Family Man is like taking a deep 80’s power ballad and turning it into a movie.”

or

“This movie is TRUELY metamorphic.”

Thanks for the gems, Amanda! She also happens to be a powerhouse on the zodiac stuff, so I figured I would take advantage of her knowledge to analyze Nic Cage, and here is what we came up with:

Cage was born on January 7th, making him a Capricorn. Or as we called him, Capricorn Cage! Here are the qualities of a Capricorn that Amanda pointed out to me:

  • Quirky
  • Wirey and Spry
  • Good sense of humor
  • Elevated sense of self and ego
  • A shoe fetish

So there ya go! A little more insight into the man, the legend, the CAGE!

Next up is Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, which I will be watching with my mother who is a real chick flick aficionado, so this will for sure come with some classic one liners!
